Wimbledon 2015, part 1 - the museum

I already wrote this entry, but it disappeared before it got published. So here I go again...

The museum at Wimbledon is a treasure trove of all things related to the history of tennis and the tournament at Wimbledon. It is located below the gift shop (enter through the gift shop).

1874 - the beginning of lawn tennis and its promotion/marketing-by this guy.

His idea of a tennis looked like this - an hour glass shaped court with players serving from the diamond shape in the middle of the court (see far player serving).

1877 - first lawn tennis tournament held at Wimbledon.

Early 20th century international competitors of note at the tournament in Wimbledon.

The history of the tennis racquet shown in this display. Note the change in the size and shape of the head.

The evolution of the tennis ball on display here.

The UK's Andy Murray- his own display case following his Wimbledon win in 2013.

Roger Federer's signature gear
Roger supposedly got fined one year for wearing tennis shoes with orange soles. Why? It was not all white attire and the shoe company was not a sponsor of the tournament. These shoes look ok.

Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray signed uniforms from the tournament. (Maybe from this year?)

Uniforms from this year's Wimbledon champs - Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams.

Championship trophy - women's and men's. They keep adding names to it as the years progress. The winners get to carry the real one around for a little bit right after they win. They take home a smaller replica. The real trophy stays at the museum.
Women's above.

Back of men's trophy.

Well worth an hour or so of your time!
